The Health Professions Student Loan (HPSL) is a unique program to help the needy students. The Federal Government supplies most of the money for this program and the educational institution administers the same. It has been authorized under the Title IV of the Higher Education Act. It is very similar to the Federal Perkins Loan program.
The main objectives for which this program is run are as follows :
- If any poor student wants to pursue a career in health and medical care, HPSL helps them achieve their dream.
- The program encourages disadvantaged students to participate in health professions.
- The program hopes to increase the number of primary health care providers.
The entire administration of this loan is in the hands of the educational institutions. They have to make sure that the student who receives the money is eligible for the same. They have to :
- Verify whether the applicant has supplied accurate information.
- assess the individual award to be given based on the financial situation.
- disburse the money.
- Maintain records for the students.
Students who want to apply for the HPSL funds should possess the following eligibility criteria :
- They must be a United States citizen or a national or a lawful permanent resident. If any foreigner is in America on a student or visitor visa, they are not eligible for this program.
- The student must have enrolled as a full-time scholar in a health profession school that participates in the HPSL program.
- The student must be in great need of financial assistance to smoothly pursue the full time course in study of health profession.
If you plan to apply for the HPSL program, check whether you satisfy all the above criteria and then apply for the loan. Or else you will unnecessarily waste your time and energy. |
